Arc Furnace Electrodes 400×1800mm

Arc Furnace Electrodes 400×1800mm
Product Introduction:
Our Φ400×1800mm quasi-ultra-high-power graphite electrode for electric arc furnaces is specially developed for medium-sized EAFs processing heavy scrap steel. The 1800 mm short-length single piece reduces the total number of nipples on the electrode column and lowers the risk of nipple breakage and detachment under severe thermal erosion inside the furnace. Its moderately large cross-section features improved ablation resistance to maintain stable operational output during smelting with dense heavy scrap steel. It delivers a cost-effective practical solution for metallurgical enterprises that have upgraded medium-sized EAFs and aim to control total furnace consumable investment.

The Φ400×1800 mm quasi-ultra-high-power graphite electrode adopts a dedicated carbon aggregate formula and suits medium-sized EAFs equipped with scrap preheating systems. Its medium-diameter cross-section resists combined erosion from high-temperature molten slag and corrosive furnace gas, and withstands periodic intensified smelting during capacity ramp-up. However, it is not suitable for long-term uninterrupted operation under extreme overload. It performs steadily on production lines where scrap preheating raises the initial furnace temperature. Widely used in medium-capacity EAFs for scrap remelting and preliminary alloying smelting, it serves metallurgical plants in capacity expansion and provides reliable performance as production lines gradually ramp up to designed output.

Our Φ400×1800mm quasi-ultra-high-power graphite electrode applies optimized aggregate grading and constant-temperature green body curing processes. Equipped with online ultrasonic non-destructive testing and mechanical sampling inspection, it effectively controls residual stress defects and accepts bulk project orders for EAF steelmaking.

FAQ

Q: Φ400×1800mm is a short-length quasi-UHP electrode. Does short blank forming bring higher risks of residual stress?

A: Short blank forming does not inherently lead to higher residual stress. We carry out uniform heat treatment for stress relief during production. Nevertheless, sharp temperature fluctuations must be avoided during EAF operation; severe thermal shock at furnace start-up may still induce cracks.

Q: For EAFs with scrap preheating systems using Φ400×1800mm quasi-UHP electrodes, are there special recommendations for arcing operations?

A: Scrap preheating keeps the baseline furnace temperature relatively high. Power should be increased gradually during arcing instead of applying full load instantly. Slow power rise allows electrodes to adapt to furnace temperature and restrain the initiation of surface cracks.

Q: What impact will it have on service life once the anti-scuff protective coating on the electrode surface burns off inside the furnace?

A: This protective coating is only used to prevent scratches during storage and transportation. It burns rapidly in the high-temperature furnace and offers no long-term anti-oxidation effect under smelting conditions, after which normal electrode consumption proceeds.

Q: What stacking height is recommended for finished Φ400×1800mm electrodes in warehouse storage?

A: This specification has a relatively large cross-section yet short body. Stacking shall not exceed 3 layers. Excessively high stacks may cause compressive deformation at the threaded end faces and compromise on-site nipple assembly.

Q: When customers conduct incoming sampling re-inspection after bulk delivery, where are sampling positions recommended for Φ400×1800mm electrodes?

A: Samples should preferably be taken from the middle section of the electrode body, away from threaded areas at both ends. Threaded zones bear concentrated machining stress and cannot represent the true physical and chemical properties of the substrate.

Q: When production schedules are tight, can Φ400×1800mm electrodes be directly connected in hot state immediately after furnace shutdown?

A: Immediate hot coupling after furnace shutdown is not recommended. Residual heat inside the electrode has not dissipated and threaded end faces remain at high temperature. Tightening nipples under high temperature creates hidden thermal stress risks and raises the probability of fracture in subsequent smelting.
