The primary function of a carburizer is to introduce carbon into metallic materials or related production systems to meet the carbon content and material performance requirements of different industrial production processes. In the heat treatment of steel, carburizers are mainly used for surface carburizing of steel parts. Through a high-temperature environment, activated carbon penetrates the surface layer of the steel and gradually diffuses inward, thereby increasing the carbon content on the surface of the part. After subsequent quenching and tempering, the surface of the part can achieve high hardness and wear resistance, while the interior retains good toughness. This treatment method is commonly used for mechanical components such as gears, drive shafts, and bearings, helping to improve the load-bearing capacity, fatigue resistance, and service life of the parts. In actual production, the carburizing effect is closely related to factors such as treatment temperature, holding time, carbon potential, and steel composition; therefore, it is necessary to rationally control the process parameters according to the material and technical requirements of the workpiece.

In the metallurgical and casting fields, if a carburizer is used for the carburization treatment of molten metal, its main function is to replenish the carbon element in the molten metal, so that the final product meets the specified carbon content and composition requirements. For example, in the cast iron production process, carbon-containing materials such as graphite and carburizing agents can be added to the molten iron, allowing carbon to gradually dissolve into the molten metal. This adjusts the composition of the molten iron and affects the microstructure and properties of the castings. During this process, the equipment needs to promote sufficient contact between the carbon-containing materials and the molten metal, improve carbon absorption efficiency, and minimize carbon loss. The specific effect is influenced by factors such as molten metal temperature, material particle size, carbon content, stirring conditions, and contact time. It is important to note that surface carburizing equipment and smelting carburizing equipment have different working principles and structures. Therefore, in practical applications, the main functions and operating requirements should be determined based on the specific type of equipment.
